How much does it cost to sponsor a student?

The cost of sponsoring a student is $195 per year or $65 per trimester. We also offer partial sponsorship for $100 per year or $35 per trimester.

How do I pay?

You can pay by check or online by credit card through PayPal.

To make your contribution online, select a donation option on the Become a Sponsor page and click the corresponding donate button. You don't need to have a PayPal account and your information is secure.

To pay by check, download and complete the Donation Form, and mail it with a check payable to Hope for Ugandan Students to:

HUGS
Attn: Clara Shapiro
682 Ocean Ave, #2E
Brooklyn, NY 11226

For how long do I commit to being a sponsor?

Your sponsorship is completely voluntary and you may stop at any time.

How will my sponsorship donation be used?

100% percent of all funds received for student sponsorships are transferred directly to our local partner organization, FDNC. The money is used to pay tuition and to provide the student with a starter kit of tools, housing (if needed), meals, school supplies, a uniform, medical care and counseling.

How are youth selected for sponsorship?

FDNC selects youth based on the criteria of impoverished status, motivation, and likelihood to successfully complete the vocational program.

Can I correspond with a student?

Yes! As a sponsor, you will have the opportunity to establish a direct connection with a Ugandan student and learn first hand about life in rural Uganda. Sign up to be matched with a scholarship student who will be eager to correspond with you. Dialogues between Ugandans and Americans is always exciting and rewarding for both parties.

Letters should be sent to:

Can I share a sponsorship with another person?

Yes. You can sign up for a partial sponsorship for $100 per year or $35 per trimester.

Can I sponsor more than one student?

Yes! There is no limit to the number of students a person may sponsor.

When I become a sponsor, will I be matched with a specific student?

To better serve the needs of the students and maximize the efficiency and flexibility of the program, sponsors are no longer matched with specific students. As a sponsor, you will receive regular updates about students and the school including photos and profiles of the scholarship students and graduates. If you sign up to correspond with a student, we will connect you with a scholarship student who will be eager to communicate with you.
